The Lagos State Government has announced the impounding of 241 unlicensed vehicles during a recent enforcement operation conducted by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS). This operation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to uphold transportation regulations.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, shared this information in a statement signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the ministry. He indicated that the enforcement actions were carried out under Sections 15 and 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018.

Osiyemi emphasized that the vehicles were found to be in violation of state transportation regulations. He cautioned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles, stating that such practices hinder law enforcement efforts, especially in identifying and tracking stolen vehicles or those linked to criminal activities.

“According to Section 16 of the TSRL 2018, driving a vehicle without proper registration or affixed identification marks constitutes a legal offense,” he noted.

During the operation, authorities discovered a fake dealer number plate on one of the impounded vehicles, and investigations are underway to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for issuing the fraudulent plate.

Osiyemi urged all motorists to adhere to the state’s traffic regulations, emphasizing that compliance is crucial for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all road users.
