The Lagos State Police Command has detained Motunrayo Olaniyi, a 30-year-old newlywed, for allegedly stabbing his 25-year-old wife, Olajumoke, to death. The incident occurred on Friday around 1:00 p.m. at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, police received a distress call reporting a domestic dispute between the couple. It was reported that during the altercation, Olaniyi stabbed his wife and then locked her in their room before setting it ablaze. He also inflicted wounds on himself.
Police responded promptly to the scene, extinguishing the fire and discovering Olajumoke’s lifeless body with stab wounds to her abdomen. Motunrayo was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries before being placed in police custody.
Upon interrogation, preliminary investigations revealed that the stabbing occurred during a heated argument. The victim’s body has been transferred to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for an autopsy
