The Lagos State government has completed the first phase of repairs on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area and is set to commence the second phase of the project. The maintenance work, divided into two phases, involved upgrading the Ojota-bound lane and the Yaba/Maryland-bound lane.
Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the completion of the first phase ahead of schedule. The repairs were planned to address worn-out expansion joints and improve the bridge’s infrastructure.
To facilitate the ongoing work, a 90-day traffic diversion was implemented. For the second phase, motorists traveling to Ojota from Maryland-Yaba will use a contraflow on the inbound Maryland lane, while those heading to Yaba from Ojota will continue on the same lane.
Daramola urged motorists to support the maintenance efforts and consider alternative routes, including Berger, Magodo, and the Tollgate routes. He also advised using the Alapere/Ogudu route or Opebi Link Bridge for access to Ikorodu Road and other major routes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki both emphasized the need for public cooperation during this period. Traffic management personnel will be deployed to minimize disruptions along affected routes.
