The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has commenced partial passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, marking a key milestone in the rail project’s development.

On Wednesday, the controlled test run featured key transport officials, including those from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, and other related agencies. This phase is designed to test the system’s comfort, efficiency, and overall functionality with non-paying passengers.

The initial test run, which covered the route between Ikeja and Agbado, provided insights into passenger behavior and system performance. The train, which made stops at Agege and Iju stations, completed the journey and returned to Ikeja as scheduled.

LAMATA has previously conducted test runs without passengers, achieving a 90% success rate over the past six weeks. This phase aims to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before the official launch of commercial services.

Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, highlighted the importance of this testing phase for fine-tuning operations to better serve Lagos residents. The test rides are set to continue to ensure a smooth transition to full commercial operations.
