The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly rebutted claims made by the party’s Interim National Chairperson, Sen. Nenadi Usman, that her committee saved the party from deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh described Usman’s assertions as “ludicrous,” “unattainable,” and “a pack of lies.” He emphasized that the Labour Party is currently in good standing and compliant with legal requirements, thus not at risk of deregistration by INEC.

Ifoh accused the Usman faction of exploiting INEC’s misunderstanding regarding the tenure of the party’s executives. He asserted that the Stakeholders’ meeting held on September 4 in Umuahia was unconstitutional, noting that the party’s constitution does not recognize such a group.

He further criticized Usman’s claims, asserting that they are unfounded and that the Labour Party’s existence is secure. The statement highlighted that appeals courts in Edo State and the Federal Capital Territory have affirmed Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party.

The Abure faction remains firm in its position, rejecting any challenges to its leadership and asserting that the party is well-positioned and legally compliant.
