Amid the ongoing Labour Party crisis, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate, and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State have organized a critical stakeholders’ meeting.
Scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia, this meeting will feature gubernatorial candidates from various states, former candidates from all six geo-political zones, and key party figures.
This development follows a public warning from the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, who advised Governor Otti to focus on state governance rather than party matters. Abure emphasized that convening a meeting to set up a caretaker committee remains the responsibility of the national chairman and secretary, not the governor.
Dodoh Okafor, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Otti on Public Communication, noted that the gathering aims to foster a “stronger and better Labour Party.” The meeting will include prominent figures such as former vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed, Julius Aburi-led executives, and representatives from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), among others.
The assembly is intended to address internal issues and strategize for the party’s future, reflecting a unified effort to strengthen Labour Party leadership amid current challenges.
