In response to the ongoing fuel price hike, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed the immediate deployment of free buses to various parts of Ilorin to assist residents with their transportation needs. The decision, announced on Thursday, aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by commuters, particularly in light of a strike by local transporters protesting the fuel price increase.

Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, stated that these buses are intended to transport people to central destinations in the city at no cost, with a special focus on helping those attending the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) job placement interviews.

Governor AbdulRazaq also appealed for patience from both transporters and the public, assuring them that government stakeholders are actively reviewing the situation with the public’s well-being as a top priority. He expressed regret for the inconveniences caused and expressed confidence that conditions would improve soon.

The strike by transporters on Thursday left many residents stranded, highlighting the immediate need for the government’s intervention.
