Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has sponsored the medical treatment of 13-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim, who is suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Ibrahim, a resident of Yammawa quarters in Katsina metropolis, gained attention on social media after a video showed his dire condition.

Alhaji Armaya’u Abdulkadir, the Katsina State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), shared that Kwankwaso saw the video and was deeply concerned. During a condolence visit to the Yar’adua family, he expressed his desire to sponsor Ibrahim’s medical treatment.

Following Kwankwaso’s directive, Ibrahim was taken to Abdullahi Wase Hospital in Kano, where he received necessary medical care and nutrition. Abdulkadir reported that “thanks be to Almighty Allah, Ibrahim has recovered and was brought back home, looking healthy and strong.”

Ibrahim’s mother, Malama Fiddausi Ibrahim-Yammawa, expressed her gratitude to the former governor, stating that she will never forget this moment. She also received ₦200,000 to start a business, which brings her joy as her son regained his health.

Reports indicate that limited financial resources, lack of access to nutritious food, and medical issues are significant contributors to severe acute malnutrition in the region.
