Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his election as Governor of Edo State, expressing a commitment to strengthen ties with the incoming APC-led administration.
In a statement issued Monday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ismaila Isah, Ododo reacted to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Okpebholo as the duly elected governor on Sunday.
Ododo praised Okpebholo and the APC leadership for their resilience and determination in returning the party to power in Edo State. He highlighted his own efforts in leading the APC campaigns in Akoko-Edo, where the party secured a notable 34,847 votes—the highest for any local government area in the state.
The Kogi governor commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of Edo voters during the election and recognized INEC and law enforcement agencies for their professionalism in maintaining law and order.
“Governor Ododo reiterated the promise of the APC and the Edo State Governor-elect to prioritize the welfare of the people and to involve all segments of the state in the development agenda when inaugurated, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement noted.
He expressed a commitment to deepen the partnership between Kogi and Edo as neighboring states with strong social, cultural, and economic ties. Governor Ododo also prayed for divine guidance for the Edo Governor-elect in leading the state toward a new chapter of development.
Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election, having polled 291,667 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Mr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes in the closely contested election.
