Dr. Ibrahim Jibril, Kano State Commissioner for Finance, has made an appeal to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for assistance in addressing the state’s drug abuse issues.

On September 15, 2024, Jibril urged the NDLEA to establish a unit within the Audu Bako Secretariat complex in Kano to combat drug peddling and abuse. He emphasized that the drug abuse situation among the youth in Kano has reached alarming levels and stressed the need for NDLEA’s presence to address these security challenges.

In his appeal, Jibril outlined the state government’s efforts to tackle drug-related problems, including the reactivation of 21 skill development institutes aimed at providing productive engagement for the youth. He also noted that the NDLEA’s establishment in Kano would significantly aid in mitigating the drug menace.

During the meeting, NDLEA Kano State Commandant Abubakar Ahmad commended the state governor’s dedication to fighting drug abuse, highlighting his recent visit to the Kiru reformatory as evidence of commitment. Ahmad also expressed appreciation for the state government’s support in completing and equipping the abandoned Drug Rehabilitation Centre at the NDLEA Command headquarters.

Both Jibril and Ahmad affirmed that this collaboration would enhance efforts to combat drug abuse and its repercussions in Kano State.
