Kalu Aja, a financial analyst and educator, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for discrepancies between his public statements and his actions, especially in light of current economic challenges and recent fuel price hikes. Aja’s critique centers on the perception that Tinubu’s actions do not align with his verbal commitments to economic prudence and sacrifice.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Aja expressed frustration over the strong defensive reactions from Tinubu’s supporters when he criticized the President’s extensive convoy during a visit to Lagos. Aja pointed out that despite Tinubu’s rhetoric on fiscal responsibility, his actions—such as the purchase of a private jet and the allocation of budget funds for SUVs for the First Lady—seem contradictory.
Aja argued that these actions suggest a disregard for the optics of economic hardship and public perception. He claimed that the lack of pushback from Tinubu’s supporters on these issues allowed the President to continue with such expenditures without apparent consequence.
Aja’s critique highlights concerns that the President’s approach to spending and resource allocation undermines his stated commitment to addressing economic difficulties and practicing fiscal discipline.
