The Kaduna State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children’s rights through the implementation of laws and policies, as stated by the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajia Rabi Salisu.
Speaking at the zonal policy dialogue on social budgeting for child-sensitive sectors in Nasarawa and the North Central zones, Commissioner Salisu highlighted significant initiatives, including the Child Welfare and Protection Law (2018), which emphasizes the best interests of children within the justice system.
COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO CHILD WELFARE
The state’s comprehensive approach encompasses:
- Children Diversion Centers: Providing alternative care and support services.
- Shelter Homes: Including the Barnawa Boys Shelter and Katuru Road Women and Children Shelter.
- At-Risk Children Programs: Targeted interventions for vulnerable children.
- Orphanage Services: Offering care and support for orphaned children.
Commissioner Salisu commended the timely dialogue for bringing stakeholders together to address funding gaps and barriers. She expressed gratitude to the organizers and UNICEF for their support, anticipating innovative solutions and enhanced social sector performance.
This collaborative effort aims to transform the lives of vulnerable children in Kaduna State and beyond. The state’s commitment to child rights is part of broader initiatives aimed at improving the overall well-being of its citizens, including healthcare financing policies and strategy documents.
