Jhon Duran has signed a new long-term contract with Aston Villa following his impressive start to the season, the Premier League club announced on Monday. The 20-year-old, who reportedly agreed to personal terms with West Ham during the summer transfer window, has finalized a deal that will keep him at Villa Park until 2030.

Duran has made a significant impact this season, scoring six times, including the only goal in last week’s 1-0 victory against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, despite starting just once across all competitions.

The Colombian forward joined Villa in January 2023 from MLS side Chicago Fire, where he scored five goals in 23 Premier League appearances last season, primarily as a substitute.

After last week’s win against Bayern, Villa boss Unai Emery praised Duran’s potential, stating that it is “huge.” He emphasized the need to connect with Duran both as a player and as a person, acknowledging that while the young striker has sometimes been impatient, his talent and capacity to contribute to the team are undeniable.

Aston Villa currently sits fifth in the Premier League table after seven games, trailing leaders Liverpool by four points.
