The Unique Forum of Orthodox Judaism has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This appeal comes as Kanu’s family expresses grave concerns over his deteriorating health and requests permission for him to receive quality healthcare outside the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility, where he has been held in solitary confinement since 2021.

In an open letter to the President, the forum emphasized that Kanu’s release could help restore peace and stability, particularly in the South East, where tensions have been escalating due to his continued detention. Rosh Nasishemtov Ihe madunweiheyah, the forum’s leader, described Kanu as “unjustly detained” and urged the President to heed the mounting calls for his release.

Madunweiheyah argued that Kanu has committed no crime and is only seeking the well-being of his people. He expressed belief that Nigeria’s challenges stem from Kanu’s ongoing incarceration, stating that God is displeased with the nation over Kanu’s situation.

The forum made a heartfelt appeal for Kanu’s release, hoping it would lead to peace in Nigeria. They held a prayer session at the palace where Kanu’s late parents are buried to reinforce their support.

Kanu’s sister, Princess Nnenne Kate Kanu, expressed gratitude for the forum’s solidarity and highlighted that her brother’s fight is for justice for the oppressed people of Biafra. She noted that Kanu had predicted Nigeria’s current struggles, lamenting that his warnings went unheeded.
