Jade Osiberu, renowned for her work on Gangs of Lagos, is making her return to filmmaking with a new project, Christmas in Lagos. This highly anticipated film is set to premiere on Prime Video this December.
In an announcement made on August 28, 2024, Osiberu revealed her comeback after a year-long hiatus. She described the film as “the most beautiful, heartwarming Christmas film ever,” and expressed her excitement about sharing it with audiences.
Osiberu noted that the film features a mix of acclaimed actors and prominent Afrobeats stars. She said, “It was such an honor to work with actors I’ve admired for years and some of the biggest names in Afrobeats because what’s a ‘Detty December’ film without Afrobeats?”
Christmas in Lagos centers on Fiyin, who is heartbroken and believes her best friend Elo is her true love. However, Elo returns from New York with plans to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie. Meanwhile, Gbemi must choose between her current boyfriend and an old flame, and Ivie, a Londoner, unexpectedly finds love during her visit to Lagos.
The film, set against the backdrop of Lagos’ vibrant “Detty December” festivities, explores themes of friendship, love, and loss during the holiday season.
Osiberu, known for her crime thrillers, assures fans that while this film is a departure from her usual genre, she is not abandoning action films. She teased two upcoming action projects, one of which involves gang-related themes.
The cast includes Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Shalom C Obiago, and Supacell star Rayxia Ojo. Afrobeats stars Adekunle Gold, Waje, Wurld, Liya, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe will also feature in the film.
