Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his unwavering determination to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, making it his primary goal. The defender, who won a bronze medal in his first AFCON appearance in Egypt in 2019, followed up with a second-place finish at the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria lost 2-1 to the hosts in the final.

Troost-Ekong also had an outstanding individual performance in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals and winning the Player of the Tournament award. However, he remains focused on achieving the ultimate goal of lifting the AFCON trophy.

Reflecting on his past experiences, Troost-Ekong said, “I’ve been there three times now—bronze medal, silver medal—but I haven’t had the chance to win it, so that’s my ultimate goal.” He added that winning the title would mean a great deal to him personally and to young fans across Africa and Nigeria.

With the next AFCON set to take place in Morocco in 2025, Troost-Ekong is hopeful of finally securing the coveted trophy and adding a gold medal to his collection.
