IT WAS AN HONOR TO WORK WITH DANIEL ON ‘THE WEEKEND’—UZOAMAKA ANIUNOH

Uzoamaka Aniunoh, who stars as Nikiya Talabi in the film The Weekend, has expressed her deep gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with director Daniel Oriahi. Aniunoh described working with Oriahi as a significant honor, reflecting on how much she valued landing the role.

Speaking with Shockng on August 30, 2024, during the premiere of The Weekend, Aniunoh shared her excitement about joining the project. She revealed that her admiration for Oriahi’s previous work, especially the film Sylvia, had fueled her eagerness to work with him and Trino Studios.

“I said yes to the project because it’s a fantastic story, and I loved the people involved in making the film,” Aniunoh stated. “Trino Studios and Daniel Oriahi’s collaboration felt like a match made in heaven. After seeing Sylvia, I was really looking forward to working with Daniel. Being invited to audition felt like a privilege, and landing the role was a dream come true.”

Regarding her acting approach, Aniunoh emphasized her preference for subtlety in performance. She explained that while there is a place for dramatic and loud expressions, she values understanding the character’s background and motivations to deliver a performance that feels true to the story.

The film, The Weekend, is a psychological thriller centered on Nikiya, an orphan who, while visiting her fiancé’s seemingly perfect family, uncovers their dark secrets. Aniunoh is joined by a cast including Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Damilola Ogunsi.

Concluding her remarks, Aniunoh encouraged audiences to watch the movie, noting that it offers a thought-provoking take on the concept of family. “The Weekend is thrilling and enjoyable. It will make you reconsider your ideas about family. I believe family isn’t everything—watch the film and decide for yourself.”

The Weekend is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
