Prof. Chidi Odinkalu discussed the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy in Nigeria. According to him, despite changes in the method of fund allocation to local governments, state governors will still retain control. This is because governors can influence local elections to install preferred chairmen who will return the funds to them. Odinkalu argues that the mandate, as established by the Supreme Court, is not truly with the people but rather with the politicians, making the reforms ineffective without addressing this underlying issue.
