Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is in Lebanon for talks on Friday, demonstrating Iran’s solidarity with the Lebanese people. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, announced the visit in a post on X.
Observers speculate that the discussions may center around the succession of the slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli air strike a week ago. Iran is the closest ally of the Lebanese Shiite militia, which has been severely weakened by Nasrallah’s death.
During the visit, Araghchi was accompanied by two lawmakers and the head of the Iranian Crescent, a sister organization of the Red Cross. Baghaei noted that Lebanon is set to receive a delivery of 10 tonnes of food and medicine during the visit, further underscoring Iran’s commitment to supporting Lebanon during this challenging time.
