Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has urged leaders in the South East region to take immediate action to combat escalating insecurity, particularly in Anambra and Imo states. His remarks came during a press conference in Owerri, where he expressed deep concern over the rise in criminal activities, including kidnappings and violence, that have left residents in a state of fear and anxiety.
Ejiofor highlighted the urgent need for coordinated intervention to prevent further deterioration of peace and stability in the region. He stated, “The escalating insecurity in the South-East, especially in Anambra State, has reached a critical and alarming state that demands immediate and urgent attention.” He called for swift and decisive measures to address the rampant lawlessness that has become a daily reality for many citizens.
Having campaigned for proactive measures to tackle insecurity, Ejiofor lamented the failure of authorities to take necessary preventive actions against non-state actors involved in violent crimes. He emphasized that the ongoing crisis could have been mitigated had early warnings been heeded.
He urged the Anambra State Government, led by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, along with political, traditional, and community leaders across the Southeast, to rise to the challenge. “We can no longer afford to remain complacent while our communities suffer,” he stated. “The security of our people and the future of our region must be the top priority.”
Ejiofor expressed his distress over the daily reports of kidnappings, murders, and attacks, asserting that families are being torn apart and livelihoods destroyed. “On behalf of the responsible people of Anambra and the entire South-East, I demand immediate and resolute action to eliminate these criminal elements and restore law, order, and stability,” he said.
He concluded by urging collective and decisive action to reclaim the region from insecurity, warning that failure to act would betray the trust placed in leaders by the community. “The stakes could not be higher, and the choices made today will determine the future of our communities. We owe it to future generations to make the right ones.”
