The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has instructed political parties to cease all campaign activities ahead of the governorship election in Edo State scheduled for Saturday.

In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC emphasized that all campaign activities must end by midnight today, September 19.

INEC warned that any political party or supporter found campaigning after this deadline would face prohibitions and potential sanctions. “It is illegal for any political party in Edo State to engage in rallies, processions, or media campaigns from midnight,” the statement said.

Additionally, INEC has instructed that on Election Day, September 21, parties, candidates, and their supporters are prohibited from wearing campaign attire or carrying campaign materials at polling units. This directive aligns with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2024 Edo State Governorship election.
