Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, have expressed optimism that the APC will dominate the upcoming September 21 council elections. They voiced this confidence during the grand finale of the party’s rally in Owerri on Thursday.
While Uzodimma acknowledged that the party’s candidates were not selected through transparent primaries, he emphasized their popularity within their communities. He also explained that the elections had been postponed since 2021 due to security issues, assuring voters that the process would be free, fair, and transparent. He urged the people of Imo, including the opposition, to vote for the candidates of their choice.
The governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support of local government autonomy, noting that Imo State has adopted the policy to strengthen its local governance. Uzodimma also stressed the importance of effectively implementing Tinubu’s policies aimed at reducing hunger, suffering, and the cost of living.
Ganduje, in his remarks, praised Uzodimma and the APC leadership in Imo for their pragmatic approach. He presented the party’s flag to the 27 chairmanship and 305 ward councillorship candidates, reminding them of their vital role in building the foundation of society.
The rally also witnessed the defection of former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders from Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area to the APC.
