I-G EGBETOKUN REPORTS REDUCTION IN KIDNAPPING, BANDITRY, AND ARMED ROBBERY, ASSURES SECURITY FOR ONDO ELECTION

Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun, has reported significant strides in combating serious crimes, including kidnapping, banditry, and armed robbery. During a meeting with police officers from the rank of Commissioner and above, Egbetokun shared that between July and September, 416 arms, 3,672 rounds of ammunition, and 178 vehicles were recovered, and 369 kidnapped victims were rescued.

Egbetokun noted a substantial decrease in crime rates across critical areas like cybercrime and expressed readiness for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election on November 16, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and security during the process.

He also stressed the need for increased patrols and proactive policing during the ’ember months to safeguard lives and property, urging officers to maintain vigilance against potential criminal activities during the holiday season. The I-G assured that the force would continue working closely with security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure election environment.
