The Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) reported a successful operation on Monday, rescuing a kidnap victim and recovering stolen vehicles in Anambra State. This operation follows a similar success from three weeks ago, where two siblings were rescued, and stolen vehicles were recovered.
OPERATION DETAILS
According to ACG Mark Okonkwo, Zonal Commander of NHFSS in the South East, the latest operation occurred after receiving a distress call at 8:00 PM on Sunday. A passer-by had observed individuals forcing someone into a vehicle along the Nri-Enugwu-Ukwu road. The hunters swiftly mobilized and followed the intelligence.
Upon the hunters’ arrival, the kidnappers fired sporadically to deter them but fled, abandoning their captive. The hunters successfully rescued a woman who had been thrown from the vehicle. They also recovered a stolen vehicle at the scene.
PREVIOUS RECOVERY
On August 25, hunters had previously recovered another stolen vehicle along the Neni-Nimo road border. The vehicle was identified by its owner, Christian Ozonyiama, who had been carjacked by armed men pretending to be vigilantes. Ozonyiama, who was initially mistaken for a vigilante himself, was forced out of his Toyota Highlander before the kidnappers sped off with his vehicle.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Okonkwo praised the Deputy Commander-General (Technical Services), Dr. John Metchie, for his support in executing timely rescue operations in Anambra and the South East. He also commended NHFSS Commander-General, Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, for his effective leadership, discipline, and commitment to rapid response in combating criminal activities across Nigeria.
