The House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has adopted a bill for the approval of a N288 billion supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

President Bola Tinubu communicated the need for this supplementary budget in a letter, attributing it to additional inflows from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) amounting to N8 billion and Miscellaneous Revenues totaling N280 billion.

During the budget defense meeting, Hon. Aliyu Muktar Betara, Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, emphasized the urgency of considering and passing the Appropriation bill to facilitate critical developmental projects in the capital city. He noted that while most of these projects are included in the statutory budget, the Senate Committee on FCT is also reviewing the proposed supplementary budget.

Betara stated that the Committee was tasked with laying the report on the supplementary budget during Thursday’s plenary due to the pressing need for some projects to commence by next week. He mentioned that the FCT Minister confirmed that most requested augmentations in the supplementary budget were already included in the 2024 statutory budget passed by the National Assembly, with only two new line items introduced.

Following the unanimous adoption of the supplementary budget, the Committee resolved to present the report in the upcoming plenary session. In his letter to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, President Tinubu expressed that residents of the Federal Capital Territory are pleased with the ongoing projects in the City Centre and across the six Area Councils.
