Hon. Ibrahim Dosara, the former Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, has initiated legal action against Jackson Ude, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, for defamation and disseminating fake news. The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of Justice in the Federal Capital Territory, seeks ₦5 billion in damages.
Represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Moses Ebute, Dosara is demanding a court order to prevent Ude from publishing further defamatory content. The lawsuit accuses Ude of spreading false information via his verified X-handle (@jacksonpbn) and other media platforms, including PointBlankNews.
In the suit dated September 13, Dosara alleges that Ude’s statements wrongfully implicated him in fraudulent activities related to a controversial Zamfara document. Ude is accused of falsely alleging that Dosara forged documents to frame media professionals for terrorism and received substantial payments for media propaganda.
Ebute emphasized the severe damage to Dosara’s reputation caused by these allegations. The lawsuit demands that Ude retract his statements and issue a public apology, which should be published in national newspapers and online platforms.
Challenges in serving Ude due to an unspecified address may lead to an application for substituted service. This case highlights the ongoing struggle against misinformation and the legal ramifications of spreading false claims.
