Hon. Ahmed Satomi, the member representing Jere Federal Constituency in Borno State, has initiated the distribution of 25kg assorted bags of wheat to approximately 5,600 constituents. This effort aims to provide relief to those affected by the recent flooding that severely impacted Maiduguri and the Jere local government areas.
Response to the Flood Disaster
The flood, which occurred on September 10, 2024, resulted in widespread destruction, prompting Hon. Satomi to take action. He had previously donated N200 million to the Borno State Government’s Relief and Disbursement Committee and allocated an additional N100 million in cash assistance directly to victims in his constituency.
At the unveiling of the wheat distribution on Tuesday at the Old Maiduguri Progressives House, Satomi highlighted that the bags of wheat primarily originated from Satomi Integrated Farms Ltd. The distribution effort kicked off with 1,051 beneficiaries from Maimusari and Mashamari Wards and is set to extend to all remaining wards in the constituency.
Ongoing Support
The initiative is aligned with the Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum‘s appeal for well-to-do individuals to assist the government in addressing the hardships faced by the community during this challenging time. Hon. Satomi emphasized that this distribution is just one part of ongoing efforts to support flood victims, stating that more initiatives will follow.
He acknowledged the severe economic challenges that Nigerians, particularly those in Jere, are facing. Satomi urged patience with the government’s current policies, assuring constituents that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Personal Impact and Commitment
Expressing his own losses, Satomi shared that he lost 2,000 hectares of rice crops during the flooding. He encouraged constituents to view their difficulties as part of a larger divine plan and reiterated his commitment to supporting them both economically and otherwise as their representative in the national assembly.
In conclusion, the wheat distribution serves not only as immediate relief for those affected by the floods but also as a demonstration of Hon. Satomi’s dedication to the welfare of his constituents in Jere Federal Constituency.
