Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has expressed his enthusiasm for the return of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is set to make his comeback from injury in the upcoming Champions League match against Young Boys. De Jong, who has been sidelined since April due to an ankle injury, will be included in the squad, and Flick anticipates he could contribute in a limited capacity.
“This is super good news to have Frenkie back with us. Whether it’s for five or 10 minutes, he’s very important for us,” Flick said during a press conference on Monday. He praised De Jong’s positive attitude and willingness to support the team, noting, “He’s gonna be ready, not to play 45 mins but 20 or 10, and it will do him a lot of good.”
Despite De Jong’s return, Barcelona still faces challenges with other players out injured, including Gavi and Ronald Araujo. Additionally, Eric Garcia will miss the match due to suspension after receiving a red card in their Champions League opener against Monaco, which resulted in a disappointing loss.
Flick is determined for the team to turn their fortunes around in Europe, stating, “We want to win all the games, the team and I as a coach, and I’m very positive we can do that.” Barcelona, having struggled in recent Champions League campaigns, is eager to regain their former glory, with their last trophy win dating back to 2015.
