On August 27, 2024, Nigerian superstar Asake headlined the second date of his ‘Lungu Boy’ tour with a sold-out concert at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. The concert featured a dramatic entry as Asake appeared on stage atop a customized sports car.
The show included performances of hit singles from Asake’s recently released third album, Lungu Boy. American rapper Gunna made a guest appearance, joining Asake for a performance of their collaboration “Happiness” with Sarz. Nigerian artist Victony also joined the stage to perform their joint track “Stubborn.”
Asake’s California concert followed his sold-out show at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The ‘Lungu Boy’ tour is set to cover six US cities, including notable venues like the Toyota Center in Houston, State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and Madison Square Garden in New York.
The tour promotes Asake’s third album, Lungu Boy, which features collaborations with international stars such as Wizkid, Central Cee, Stormzy, Travis Scott, and Ludmilla. The album achieved significant streaming milestones, including setting a record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria with 18.9 million streams, surpassing Davido’s previous record of 14.4 million streams for Timeless. Additionally, Lungu Boy set a new record for the biggest opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify with 9.2 million streams. The track “MMS” also broke records with 870,577 streams on its first day, surpassing Wizkid’s previous record of 626,000 streams for “IDK” feat Zlatan.
