On Tuesday, five armed men allegedly abducted High Chief Ezebinobi Ezeigbo, the President of the Abatete community in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The abduction occurred shortly after Anambra State Governor Prof Charles C. Soludo swore in Dr Law Mefor, an Abatete kinsman, as the new Commissioner for Information.

A community member, who requested anonymity, reported that the kidnappers trailed Ezeigbo from Awka, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony. The abductors reportedly followed him to his residence around 6:30 pm on September 17, 2024.

Upon arrival at his house, the gunmen surrounded Ezeigbo, forced him from his vehicle at gunpoint, and ordered him into their car. They attempted to drive away with both Ezeigbo and his vehicle, but the car veered off and crashed into a gutter. Unable to retrieve the vehicle, the kidnappers abandoned it and fled with Ezeigbo.

As of now, Ezeigbo’s family has not been contacted by the kidnappers, and his whereabouts remain unknown. Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, has stated that he has no information regarding the incident.
