Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State highlighted that the 2024 Independence Anniversary arrives during a period of significant economic stress for many households, as Nigeria faces challenges from an unfair global economic system and years of mismanagement.

Speaking at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary, he remarked, “Fellow citizens, today, we mark yet another significant milestone in our journey as a sovereign nation. On October 1, 1960, we proudly hoisted our green white green flag, symbolizing freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination.”

He emphasized that the day serves as a reminder not only of Nigeria’s sovereignty but also of the courage and resilience that defines its people. “We celebrate not just the freedom we have achieved but the collective effort that has brought us thus far. We honor the struggles of our past, the sacrifices of our heroes, and the unwavering spirit of our people.”

Governor Sani noted that nation-building is a marathon, not a sprint, and a continuous process of striving and overcoming. “Sixty-four years on, there have been highs and lows on the journey, but we are still striving. And there is cause for cheer. We have enjoyed uninterrupted democratic governance for twenty-four years. Economically, Nigeria has experienced growth, becoming Africa’s largest economy. However, this anniversary comes at a time of severe economic stress in many households, grappling with challenges due to the unfair global economic system and years of mismanagement.”

He stated that both the federal and state governments have implemented short-, medium-, and long-term measures to alleviate citizens’ hardships. He commended the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government for taking bold and painful economic measures aimed at reinventing the economy. “However, with patience and sustained support, our economy would bounce back and the socio-economic conditions of our people would improve,” he added.

The governor assured that the Kaduna State Government is committed to providing support to the poor, vulnerable, and underserved. “We are investing heavily in agriculture, education, health, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The transformation of the rural economy is ongoing with several completed and ongoing road projects across the state.”

He encouraged unity in the face of adversity, stating, “Let us draw strength from our resilience and our capacity to unite. As we move forward, let us confront and embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we can create a brighter future where every citizen can thrive and reach their full potential. May our collective efforts continue to shape a nation that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. Happy Independence Anniversary!”
