Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has officially launched the upgrade of the Ibadan airport, renamed Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, to international standards. The first phase of the project, costing N41 billion, aims to transform the state into a regional economic hub.
At the ground-breaking ceremony, Makinde emphasized that his administration has prioritized the airport’s upgrade since 2019 to position Ibadan as a major business center in the southwest. He highlighted that the project would boost air travel operations, support both business and leisure travelers, and promote economic growth in Oyo State.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, the special guest at the event, praised Makinde as a “true actualizer” of development projects.
