Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has urged Nigerians to embrace unity and strive for inclusive national economic development for the common good of the nation. He made this call during a special church service at the Government House Chapel in Enugu, marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Describing the anniversary as a milestone, Mbah highlighted the resilient spirit of the Nigerian people. He emphasized the critical role of government in sustaining democracy and stressed that the country can thrive only in an environment where everyone feels included and alienation is actively addressed.

“The message for us as a nation is to be united and to pursue inclusive economic development. That is the direction our economy must take,” he stated.

Mbah also encouraged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other state leaders to realize the nation’s economic aspirations. He expressed optimism about the country’s steady progress, though he noted that the current incremental approach needs urgent reassessment to address national challenges more effectively.

“We are making steady progress. However, we must consider whether our current efforts are sufficient or if we should implement disruptive innovations to overcome our developmental challenges,” he said.

Earlier, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, Diocesan Secretary and Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, urged political and private sector leaders to use their positions for the common good. He commended Mbah’s innovative leadership and highlighted the state’s tax reforms as a fair measure to ensure governmental accountability and service delivery.
