As Akwa Ibom celebrates 37 years since its creation, Governor Umo Eno has clarified that the launch of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses is pending due to the search for partners to establish refilling depots.
In his anniversary broadcast, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of having refilling infrastructure in place before initiating the CNG program, stating, “It does not make sense to buy CNG buses that will not have refilling depots, as it would defeat the purpose of this initiative.” He also cautioned independent marketers in the state against selling fuel above the approved pump price, warning that the government would not tolerate such actions. Reports indicate that many filling stations in Uyo, the state capital, are currently selling petrol at N1,800 per litre.
Governor Eno announced plans to establish a Task Force to hold those violating fuel pricing regulations accountable. Reflecting on the anniversary, he expressed gratitude for the peace the state has enjoyed and reiterated his commitment to fostering prosperity.
He urged citizens to support one another during challenging times, stating, “Politics should not divide us, ethnicity should not separate us. Let our kindred spirit be an everlasting tie that binds us.” Eno emphasized his role as a peace-maker who values collaboration across political lines and humility in governance.
