Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, highlighted the significance of preserving the Igbo people’s rich cultural heritage during the South East Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Umuahia. He described culture as a vital identity marker for any community and condemned internal power struggles and infighting within Igbo societies.
Citing the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, as an example of excellent leadership, Otti urged leaders to view power as temporary and an opportunity for service. He reminded the community that accountability is essential, adding that a good leader must also be a good listener.
Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the Council for selecting Abia State for the meeting, reaffirming the state’s commitment to hospitality and his dedication to serving the people without seeking personal gain.
Eze E. C. Okeke, Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, commended Governor Otti’s efforts in advancing Abia State’s development and ensuring peace and security. Similarly, Eze Linus Mbah, Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, praised Otti’s positive relationship with traditional institutions and called on the federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that his release would help restore peace in the South East.
