Governor Alex Otti has dismissed Professor Onyemachi Ogbolu from his position as Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, appointing Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as his successor. This decision comes alongside the approval and upcoming release of the full report of the White Paper from the Visitation Panel that investigated the university’s management activities.

Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, made this announcement during a press briefing following the Executive Council meeting in Umuahia. He indicated that the new appointments will take effect on November 1, 2024, and will include a revamped Management team and Governing Council for the institution.

The newly appointed Management team features prominent figures, including former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, who will serve as Pro-Chancellor, and Mrs. Cathrine Uju Ifejika as Chancellor. Dr. Onwubiko Dike has also been named as a member of the Governing Council. Additional members include two Deputy Vice Chancellors, a new Bursar, four members of Senate, two congregation representatives, one Convocation member, and a representative from the State Ministry of Tertiary Education.

The Commissioner emphasized that the approval of the White Paper is part of Governor Otti’s commitment to reforming the education system and improving conditions in Abia State. He explained that the Visitation Panel was established to identify challenges facing the university and propose solutions.

“The first in the series of reforms that would take place there has commenced with the appointments that have been made,” Prince Kanu stated, highlighting the administration’s dedication to fostering educational advancement in the state.
