Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been recognized as Nigeria’s most labour-friendly governor by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS). This accolade reflects his exceptional commitment to empowering trade unions and fostering harmonious labour relations within the state.

Commitment to Labour Relations

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a letter of appreciation from Dr. Raji Michael, representing the Director General and Chief Executive of MINILS, emphasized Governor Yusuf’s landmark initiative to organize a capacity-building workshop for union leaders within the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The workshop, titled “Conflict Management for Harmonious Industrial Labour Relations Environment,” aimed to equip union executives with practical conflict resolution strategies to enhance workplace harmony and productivity. Dr. Michael expressed gratitude for Governor Yusuf’s dedication to advancing workers’ education and efforts to create vibrant, responsive trade unions in Kano.

In his letter, he noted, “Your Excellency, on behalf of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiru Onyejeocho, we express our gratitude for your dedication to advancing workers’ education and your continuous efforts to create responsive, vibrant trade unions in Kano.”

Positive Impact and Future Collaboration

Dr. Michael also highlighted that participants returned from the workshop with renewed determination and the skills necessary for effective conflict management in their respective workplaces. The institute expressed interest in further collaboration with the Kano State Government to advance labour education and development initiatives.

This recognition underscores Governor Yusuf’s proactive approach in enhancing labour relations and his commitment to empowering workers in Kano State.
