Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has urged Nigerians to demonstrate selflessness and passion in their service to humanity. He made this call during the public presentation of the book “Dr Christie Toby: Touching Lives, Raising Leaders,” authored by Dotun Adekanmbi, in Port Harcourt.

Fubara praised Dr. Christie Toby, the wife of the former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, for her dedication and selflessness in education. He highlighted Toby’s impactful career as a teacher, educationist, school proprietor, and philanthropist. The governor emphasized that her life embodies the qualities of passion and selflessness that he encourages all to emulate.

He recommended the book as an inspirational read that reflects Toby’s significant contributions to education and leadership. Fubara also outlined his administration’s focus on education, agriculture, infrastructure, and housing, underscoring the importance of honoring educational heroes like Toby.

At the event, former Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili, who chaired the occasion, called for a review of teacher training policies. She expressed concern over the decline in teacher training colleges and the impact of untrained teachers on the educational system. Odili stressed the need to revisit and strengthen teacher training to ensure high-quality education.

Dr. Christie Toby, the honoree, expressed gratitude to her supporters and emphasized her commitment to education. She highlighted her experiences and challenges, and encouraged teachers to be patient and persistent in their efforts to educate. Toby hopes her book will inspire others to appreciate the value of education and passion in shaping future leaders.
