Gombe State has launched an initiative to enroll 1,000 Almajiri children into the state’s health insurance scheme. The program, managed by the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth), aims to provide these children, who are pupils of non-formal Qur’anic schools, with access to quality healthcare.
Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau announced the enrollment during a ceremony on Wednesday. He emphasized that the scheme is a crucial step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable groups.
Jatau highlighted that the Almajiri children are particularly at risk due to their exposure to harsh environments, which makes them susceptible to communicable diseases. By integrating them into the GoHealth system, the state aims to reduce health risks and ensure broader community protection.
The initiative is part of the Inuwa Yahaya administration’s broader commitment to improving healthcare access and addressing the needs of the less privileged. Jatau also called on philanthropists to support the scheme to enhance its impact and sustainability.
