The World Migration Report reveals that while only 281 million people—3.6% of the world’s population—are migrants, this figure is on the rise due to improved mobility and technology. The report, published every two years, tracks migration trends primarily through money transfers, as many migrants send remittances back home. Immigration plays a crucial role in driving economic growth and filling labor shortages, particularly as birth rates decline in several regions.

  6. United Arab Emirates – 8.7 million immigrants
The UAE, hosting 8.7 million immigrants, is known for its tax-free salaries and economic development, drawing in many from Asia and Africa.
  7. France – 8.5 million immigrants
France’s immigrant population is shaped by historical ties to its former colonies in Africa and the Caribbean, with a strong welfare system and job market continuing to attract newcomers.
  8. Canada – 8 million immigrants
Canada is recognized for its welcoming immigration policies, attracting skilled workers, students, and refugees, while offering a high quality of life and strong social services.
