The German Government, led by Weert Borner, the German Consul General to Nigeria, has expressed a strong interest in deepening economic cooperation with Enugu State. During a recent visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House in Enugu, Borner highlighted Germany’s commitment to collaborating with the state in areas such as agriculture, energy, trade, and investment.
Borner noted that Enugu was chosen as one of the three key business and investment destinations in southern Nigeria due to the improved ease of doing business under Mbah’s administration. This visit is part of ongoing discussions initiated in Lagos in 2023 to enhance German cooperation with the state.
Governor Mbah welcomed the partnership, emphasizing Enugu’s ambition to achieve a $30 billion GDP target through private sector investments and international cooperation. He highlighted agriculture as a crucial sector for economic growth, aiming to develop Special Agro Processing Zones for local and export markets. Mbah also mentioned the advancement of the international wing of Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the construction of a cargo terminal to boost exports.
This collaboration reflects a growing interest in regional partnerships to drive Nigeria’s economic development, with Enugu positioned as a strategic partner in this endeavor.
