Exciting news for Game of Thrones fans as HBO has begun production on its latest spin-off series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.” This series is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight” and is set approximately 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Filming is currently underway in Belfast, Ireland, with a stellar cast already in place. Peter Claffey will lead as Ser Duncan the Tall, a chivalrous knight, while Dexter Sol Ansell will portray Egg, Duncan’s squire who later becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. The series will also feature Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.
Directed by Sarah Adina Smith and Owen Harris, the first season will consist of six episodes. Smith, known for her work on “Lessons In Chemistry” and “Hanna,” will helm three episodes, while Harris, who also serves as an executive producer, will direct the remaining three.
The storyline will follow Ser Duncan and Egg’s adventures, including their participation in a knightly competition where they interact with various members of the Targaryen dynasty and other significant figures in Westeros. This narrative promises to deliver the same blend of political intrigue, daring exploits, and formidable adversaries that characterized the original series.
Fans can anticipate a late 2025 release, as confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
