Former Minister of Labour and Productivity during Chief Ernest Shonekan’s Interim National Government, Prince Ajibola Afonja, has passed away at the age of 82.
The former Chairman of First Bank and native of Oyo town, Oyo State, died on Sunday night at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. His death followed injuries sustained from a lone accident near his country home in Ilora. He was subsequently rushed to UCH, where he later passed away. Afonja, who once ran as the senatorial candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Oyo Central Senatorial District, was confirmed dead by Chairman of Oyo Global Forum, Taiwo Adebayo.
Described as a community leader and industrious figure, Afonja’s contributions to Oyo town and the nation were acknowledged. He was known for his generosity and dedication, and his absence leaves a significant void. Despite his passing, his legacy of service and compassion will endure, inspiring those he touched.
