Between early August and early September, floods in Katsina State resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people, displaced over 3,000 individuals, and injured 21,481 others. The floods also caused significant damage, affecting 32,542 houses across 32 local government areas.
Hajiya Binta Hussain Dagani, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), shared these details in a recent interview. The hardest-hit areas include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, Batagarawa, Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa.
At the old Katsina Government House, Dagani initiated the distribution of relief supplies donated by the Bank of Industry to flood victims. She announced that additional relief measures, including cash assistance and building materials, are planned for implementation by next week.
Dagani also revealed that SEMA has submitted a detailed report to the state government outlining the extent of the damage, the number of affected individuals, and the areas impacted. Emergency support groups, including the Health and Development Support Programme (HANDS) based in Jos, are actively mobilizing resources to aid the affected communities in Katsina.
