Nigerian music icon Flavour recently shared insights into his early career in an interview on the In My Opinion Podcast. Reflecting on his journey to stardom, Flavour revealed that he initially charged ₦5,000 per beat as he began to make a name for himself.
Flavour recounted his first major break working with rapper Nigga Raw (now Mr. Raw), where he played the piano in the studio. Determined to advance his music career, Flavour sought lessons from Nigga Raw’s producer, paying ₦1,000 weekly for the training.
After honing his skills in music production, Flavour started producing beats and set his rate at ₦5,000 per beat. His early work included accompanying Nigga Raw to shows and contributing to a hit song that marked his first significant success.
Flavour credited Nigga Raw for teaching him about the essence of being an artist and guiding him through the initial stages of his career. During the interview, he also discussed his decision to pivot from R&B to Highlife Fusion, citing the latter’s greater profitability.
The conversation highlighted a pivotal moment when Flavour received a career-changing call from music marketer Obaino Music, prompting his move from Enugu to Lagos in pursuit of fame.
