On Thursday, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, launched the disbursement of ₦1.85 billion in capitalisation empowerment support for 37,000 women petty traders across Nigeria.
Speaking at the event in Asaba, Delta, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted that this initiative, part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Programme, will provide grants of ₦50,000 each to 1,000 pre-selected women petty traders in each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The grants are aimed at helping these women expand their businesses and overcome challenges.
She praised Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for adding ₦50 million to the RHI grant, raising the total grant per beneficiary in Delta to ₦100,000.
Mrs. Tinubu acknowledged the vital role of petty traders in local economies and emphasized the importance of economic empowerment for women. She reiterated that empowering women is essential for national prosperity and pledged continued support through the RHI programme.
In her remarks, Mrs. Tinubu commended the beneficiaries for their resilience and encouraged them to utilize the grants effectively to support their families and businesses. She also thanked Governor Oborevwori, his wife Mrs. Tobore, and the people of Delta for their support and hospitality.
Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude for choosing Delta for the launch and commended Mrs. Tinubu for her commitment to Nigerian welfare through various RHI initiatives, including support in agriculture, education, and health care. He highlighted the state’s benefits from these initiatives and emphasized the administration’s focus on alleviating family hardships.
The governor’s wife, Mrs. Tobore, who leads the “You Matter Charity Foundation,” also congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to use the grants judiciously to enhance their businesses and family well-being.
