Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer at FilmOne Group, has shared her insights on the significance of strategic positioning in film distribution, emphasizing that well-positioned films will capture the attention of Nigerian audiences.

In an interview with Pulse, Awobokun highlighted that there are numerous untold stories waiting to be brought to the screen. She believes that if films are marketed and positioned correctly, they will attract viewers. “There are so many existing stories that haven’t even come on screen. For a long time, we’ve always thought that we have to create stories but there are lots of stories already that need to be told,” she said.

Awobokun noted that Nigerian audiences are diverse and eager to engage with various genres, including biopics, romances, and epics. She stressed that proper production and presentation play a crucial role in a film’s success. “If you position any film as a film to watch that should be watched, the Nigerian audience will watch it. They’re coming out for different types of films. They are coming out to watch these films in their numbers,” she added.

She also detailed FilmOne’s approach to film selection and distribution. The company uses an in-house standard and checklist to evaluate films for distribution, considering factors such as production quality, timing, and seasonal relevance. Films that do not perform well in cinemas are pitched to streaming platforms to maximize their reach and profitability.

Awobokun’s comments underscore the growing sophistication in the Nigerian film industry and the importance of strategic positioning in reaching and engaging audiences.
