The Federal Government has allocated ₦47.5 billion for the first phase of upgrading 50 selected senior secondary schools across Nigeria. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed promises to improve educational infrastructure.
Dr. Iyela Ajayi, the Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), announced this at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Government Science Secondary School (GSSC) in Koton Karfe, Kogi State. The GSSC is the only school in Kogi State to benefit from this phase of the intervention.
Ajayi emphasized that this upgrade is part of a broader plan, with the intention to address more schools in subsequent phases. He urged patience from other schools that will be considered in future phases of the project.
“This is just the first phase. Upon completion, we will report to President Tinubu and the Minister of Education and proceed to the next phase,” Ajayi said. He also called for the school principals to support the contractors and ensure the security of the facilities during construction.
Maimuna Umar, Director of the Physical Planning Unit of the commission, outlined the project’s scope, which includes the construction of four new buildings with six classrooms, an administrative block, a laboratory, an ICT center, and an e-library.
Yunusa Dauda, the principal of the GSSC, praised the federal government’s initiative, highlighting the school’s need for updated infrastructure to enhance the learning environment.
The contractor, First Man Industries Link Limited, represented by the Managing Director, committed to meeting the project specifications and delivering the work on time.
