The Federal Government has initiated plans to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon due to rising tensions between Israel and Iran. Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Nigerians in Lebanon should contact the Nigerian mission for documentation and profiling.

“Alert! All Nigerians in Lebanon are expected to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling and documentation and subsequent evacuation,” he stated.

This announcement follows Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, which were seen as retaliation for the assassination of Hezbollah leaders, escalating the conflict. In response, Israel has launched a series of attacks on Beirut, targeting what it described as terrorist locations, and issued evacuation orders for residents in certain areas.

Despite the escalating violence, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the Israeli strikes in Beirut. The situation continues to develop, with global powers urging for calm and dialogue.
