The Federal Government has assured motorists using the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode section of the Sagamu-Benin expressway that palliative work on the failed portions of the road will begin by Monday.
This announcement came from Mr. Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, following his inspection of the road’s deteriorating condition in Sagamu on Tuesday.
Umahi acknowledged that the poor state of the road has caused significant hardship for motorists. During his visit, he emphasized the urgent need for immediate measures to alleviate the suffering of road users and assured that repairs would be completed by the end of the year.
He stated, “I am directed by Mr. President, sequel to our meeting with him, that I should come and do all that is necessary on this road so that the suffering of our people can come to an end. The governor has shown me the terrible three spots. Governance is all about the people, and that is what Mr. President is committed to doing.”
Umahi noted that he was accompanied by the Lagos and Ogun Controllers of Works and that an action committee has been formed to collaborate with the state’s team, including the Commissioner for Works, Environment, and Transport.
He concluded by promising that by the President’s directive, motorists would see visible action on the road starting Monday. Additionally, Umahi revealed plans to install solar lights after the repairs are completed.
